About shrwed.co
Kenya's financial clarity engine.
We built shrwed.co for every Kenyan who has ever been surprised by a hidden fee, misled by a "5% interest" claim, or simply didn't know their options. Your money, your decision — but you deserve all the facts first.
The Kenyans we built this for
Real people. Real decisions.
shrwed.co isn't a product for finance nerds. It's for the millions of Kenyans making life-changing money decisions every day — often without complete information. These are the people we think about every time we build something.
Wanjiru took a Ksh 10,000 mobile loan in January at "5% interest". She didn't know the real APR was 147% once processing fees and rollover penalties were included. By March she owed Ksh 21,000.
"I just needed to know the real cost upfront. That's all."
Kipchoge started trading forex after a WhatsApp tip. He deposited Ksh 85,000 with a broker promising "zero spreads" — only to discover it wasn't CMA-regulated. He lost everything before the regulator caught up.
"If I'd seen the license check first, I never would have deposited."
Amina has been saving Ksh 5,000/month in a SACCO for three years. She recently found out her SACCO's dividend rate was 4% — while a comparable one she'd never heard of paid 12.5%. Three years of the difference.
"I could have been earning three times more. Nobody told me to compare."
Why this matters
Information asymmetry is expensive.
Every day, millions of Kenyans make financial decisions without complete information. Mobile apps charge APRs from 36% to 180%. SACCO dividends vary by 8 percentage points across the same tier. Unlicensed brokers cost depositors millions. The information exists — it's just not accessible.
Financial clarity shouldn't be a privilege reserved for those who already know how to ask the right questions.
— The reason shrwed.co existsOur story
Why we're building this.
shrwed.co started from a simple observation: the information Kenyans need to make good financial decisions exists — it's just locked away.
In fintech, banking, and consumer advocacy, we kept seeing the same pattern: products that looked affordable at the headline, but punished people in the footnotes. Friends caught by predatory rollover fees. Colleagues in SACCOs they'd never compared. Traders with deposits in unlicensed platforms.
We built shrwed.co because we believe one thing: when you have all the facts, you make better decisions. Not our decisions. Yours.
No celebrity founders. No personality-driven brand. Just accurate data, honest methodology, and one question that guides everything we build: "Would we show this to our own families?"
Watched friends and colleagues pay more than necessary for financial products — not through bad luck, but through missing information.
Spent months mapping the Kenyan fintech landscape: mobile lenders, SACCOs, forex brokers, digital banks. The data existed. It just wasn't organized.
Built a live data pipeline to track, normalize and compare products across categories. Tested on 3G. Designed for first-time users and experienced investors alike.
Mobile Loans, SACCOs and Forex are live. Banking, Insurance, and Investing are next. The mission never changes: your money, your decision.
What guides us
Four things we never compromise on.
True cost — interest, fees, penalties, everything. No surprises, no fine print hiding what you need to know.
Not a global platform adapted for Kenya. Built here, for here. Every design decision considers Kenyan users on Kenyan networks.
Your data is never sold. KDPA 2019 compliant. We exist to serve you, not advertisers.
Financial decisions can't wait. Loads in seconds, works on 3G, respects your time and data bundles.
